What’s this all about?

As more and more cities and states adopt bar/restaurant smoking bans, ordinary Americans are left to ponder: what happens to someone’s drink and/or seat when that person steps outside? The situation is fraught with terrible risk.

Presenting the I’ve Stepped Out for a Smoke card (click here to see it again), a humble attempt to solve this problem using equal parts creativity and civility.

When it’s time to step out – for a smoke of your own or just to join a friend – simply place one of these cards on top of or tucked just under your drink. The graphic (click to view – just remember it’s ©) stands out in a crowd (see “how”) so the bartender and other patrons will know that you (and/or your friends) haven’t skipped the check or abandoned your chair.

Sized like a standard business card, Stepped Out cards are professionally printed on heavy stock with a high-quality, water-resistant plastic coating. Each card is sturdy enough to be used more than once but still affordable enough to lose.

The Stepped Out cards don’t take a side on smoking or smoking bans. That’s up to you. This is just one attempt to make the situation work a little better for everyone.
